Optical Benefit
This benefit is provided by Crowleys Opticians who have a contract with the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
We can now get your PRSI claim authorised in 24 hours,
You are entitled to:
1. A free sight test - sight tests for VDUs, driving licences, etc., are not covered under the Treatment Benefit Scheme. Safety glasses are also excluded.
2. An eye examination for contact lenses - the Department will pay a fixed amount towards this assessment
3.Free glasses have been stopped since budget of 2009
People receiving the following benefits are eligible for PRSI cover:
1. Invalidity Pension
2. Retirement Pension/Old Age Contributory Pension
3. Disability Benefit (for 12 months or more)
4. Unemployment Benefit
5. Contributory Widows pension
Medical Card Holders
This benefit is provided by Crowleys Opticians who have a contract with the Health Services Excutive. We will fill in your application form if you give us details from your medical card. The process involves filling a form and on receiving authorisation an eye appointment can be arranged.
You are entitled to:
1. A free sight test - sight tests for VDUs, driving licences, etc., are not covered under the Benefit Scheme.
Safety glasses are also excluded.
2. An eye examination for contact lenses - the Department will pay a fixed amount towards this assessment
3. Medical Card Holders are entitled to a pair of Reading and Distance lenses to a certain range of Spectacles free of charge [or one pair of bifocals] . If a patient choses a more expensive option then this allowance can be set against the bill.
